The story
It began at 3 a.m., on the floor of a nursery.
Cradle & Compass began in the small hours of the morning, when my daughter was twelve weeks old and I was searching the internet for the third time that night for a kind, intelligent answer to a question about her sleep.
I kept finding two kinds of writing — clinical to the point of coldness, or chatty to the point of uselessness. I wanted something in between. Something honest, gentle, and actually long enough to answer the question. So I started writing it myself.
"Every essay here is the article I wished someone had handed me on the drive home from the hospital."
Today, Cradle & Compass is read by mothers in 40+ countries. It still has one writer, no sponsorships, and no agenda beyond making another mother's hard night feel a little less lonely.

On advertising
Reader-supported. Family-friendly. Honest.
Cradle & Compass is supported through display advertising from a vetted, family-friendly ad network — never sponsored editorial. No ads inside the first paragraph, no pop-ups, and no ads on legal, medical-emergency or grief-related articles. If we recommend a product, it is because we have used it ourselves, and we say so plainly.
On medical information
We are companions, not prescriptions.
Nothing on this site is a substitute for personalised medical advice. Every baby is different. Please talk to your own paediatrician for your own child. If you or your baby are in a medical emergency, please call your local emergency number immediately.
